Racing thru a book review on the blisshog's latest offering. That's right, the internet's own Simon Reynolds looks at the glory years of post-punk and decides to Rip It Up And Start Again (Faber & Faber, £12.99). John McTernan immersed himself in Simon's comprehensive survey, and has pulled himself back together sufficiently to write:
"A FAMOUS Chinese proverb tells us, 'Sit by the river long enough, and your enemies will float by.' In our more peaceful times, it still holds true, but the enemies floating by are yesterday’s fashions.
"For anyone who grew up in the 1970s, seeing flared trousers return was a startling event. But the shocking sense of feeling out of step is as naught compared to the realisation that one's youth is turning into history." ¶ 4/09/2005 05:38:00 PM
