Today, RRC (Rock n Roll Confidential) heard from Darrell Jonsson of the Prague Post in the Czech Republic. When we asked him what was going on there musically, this was his response....

The Prague music scene is near hyperactive, every genre
imaginable has found increasing representation here in
the last 7 years, as you can see by the following
list of articles, that I've writen about the local
scene during that time below.

Part of what keeps things hopping around his is emigre's
not only from American but also from the U.K., and increasingly
from Asia, African, South America and else where,
Each community is emerging economically and culturally
so music rides along with all of it. With the city linked
by an impressive tram and metro system its easy to get
to concerts and people here live in small apartments
and houses and love to get out and support music.

Music as well is part of validating the local music
and the Czech language which has been historically
challenged. And of course there is the local beer
which is said to be the best on earth and is price
controlled.

The festival previews below give some insight in
the present climate and its legacy. other wise some artists
I've interviewed who have passed through Prague, or
that Prague their home also may give some insight into
your questions.

Benefit Concert for Sugar Pie DeSanto
This Saturday in San Francisco

San Francisco R&B queen Sugar Pie DeSanto lost everything when her Oakland apartment burned down last month. Her husband died trying to fight the blaze. The 71-year-old singer will be the beneficiary of a concert Saturday at Biscuits and Blues.

Along with her fellow Oakland blues scene veteran Jimmy McCracklin, guests will include Maria Muldaur, Angela Strehli and Annie Sampson.

Her record "I Want to Know" was a hit in 1960 and she toured for two years as opening act of the James Brown revue. She had other R&B hits and did a couple of noteworthy duets with Etta James, but since the '70s she has been recording and performing almost exclusively in the Bay Area. Several veteran Bay Area R&B groups -- including the Dynamic Four and Johnny Talbot and De Thangs -- played a benefit for her last weekend at a Daly City nightclub.

Donations to the Sugar Pie DeSanto fund can be made at any Wells Fargo bank.
