Compositional Intent Can Be Veiled by Time As Well
That would be much funnier and harder to guess, wouldn't it /// if you just heard the tinkle music and didn't see the NAME or the video or know it was about coffee?
If all that were deleted and you just heard the music, that would be my COMPOSITIONAL INTENT!
How could you begin to guess who that was really about? You couldn't, not unless you knew the story and the people and times and influences that were swirling around this weird reference to a real historic person ...
Get it?
If I were composing about Veefheart and "Porter" I would use TINKLE MUSIC ... (two-fold reason:
Uno. The sound-a-like name
Dos: Edgar Allen Poe's "The Bells" talking about .... Don and his wedding and the sky and bells ....
Get it?
I would call that piece some clever title and you would never know what the hell I was referencing, nor likely would you care.
